Cork St. Patrick's Festival 2006 was a fiesta of loud colours and flights of fancy, with marching bands from Ireland and America, samba bands, dancers, street theatre performers, pageants and hundreds of community carnival groups from all over the country.
I wasnt fortunate enough to watch the parade 1st hand, as it's very very very cold that day, n I have to do Friday prayers. however, i watched it on TV and managed to join in the fun on the last day(sunday) of the 3-day carnival, (as suddenly it became all sunny n warmer compared to friday n saturday)
There were International art exhibitions, site-specific work, performances, readings and poetry, music ranging from folk to pop, trad to world music and international rock acts.
Events for the kids include story-telling, puppet shows, workshops and a funfair.
There were awe-inspiring sights and sounds of juggling, tight rope acts, acrobatics, improv comedy, theatre on stilts, clowning around, giant puppets, traditional dancing, string quartets, new world music and barbershop quartets along the Patrick street... there were so many people, in which many of them are tourists, speaking different languages.
There was also music from the UCC Chorus, The Polyphonics and the Cork Pops Orchestra and dance from cruX dance theatre.
There is also the Festival Food Street Market which showed what Irish and Munster producers have to offer. Overall, A Great day out..
